Characters
Prokop "Lt" Nikolaevich
Lieutenant
Lt is the leader of the squad. He's getting a bit old, but is still in there
with the grunts. His father Gardenji helped build the Phoenix
(as did all the People). The Phoenix is Lt's guiding
star, because it's the proof of what the people can do if they work together.
To him, the Phoenix is a testament of peace. He often
talks to Doc, his old friend, when things get rough. Lt and Doc got to know
each other back in the Battle of Sotek.
Rob "Doc" Bascomb
2nd Lieutenant/Chaplain/medic
Doc is the medic and chaplain of the squad. He often tackles problems with philosophical
speculation. He and Lt have been friends ever since they served together during
the Battle of Sotek. The chaplain status is one of
technical and psychological nature. He is both healer of man and machine. While
chaplain, he is not 2nd in command as his rank would imply.
Jack "Web"
Webley
Corporal/Heavy Weapons
Web is the heavy weapons specialist of the squad. When things get rough, he's
the one that verbally breaks down (which makes him the perfect victim for Eagle's
sharp tongue). Although he's a true pessimist, he's always there for the squad
when it counts. Even though Webley was assigned to the 21st airborne before
corporal Mishra, he still look up to her. Before being assigned to the 21st
airborne, corporal Webley served in the Regia Publicus
2nd infantry unit.
Draupadi "Eagle"
Mishra
Corporal/Sniper
Eagle is the sniper and scout of the squad. Having strong will and physical
agility, she's often perched above the squad, keeping an eye on the terrain.
She prefers solitude, and so her social abilities are rather low. She and Web
often argue like cat and dog. Eagle and Dredge was assigned to the 21st airborne
together, a little while after Webley was assigned to the Airborne.
John "Don/Sarge"
Donavan
Sergeant/2nd in command
John's father served during the Battle of Sotek while
John himself was a private first class. He's very proud of his heritage, and
he's naturally proud to serve under Lieutenant Prokop. He is one of three -
Doc and LT being the other two - who is old enough to fully remember the horrors
of Sotek.
Al "Dredge"
Dredge
Private 1st class
Dredge was assigned to the 21st airborne together with corporal Mishra. She
was his groupleader during bootcamp and he's very happy that they made 21st
airborne together, knowing how competent she is with her rifle. He never quite
had the tactical knowledge needed to make squadleader himself, but he's physically
strong and quite good with the AAR... why
would he otherwise had made it into the airborne?
Sam "Thorpe"
Thorpe
Private 1st class
Sam is the latest addition to the 21st airborne and also the youngest. While
being a private 1st class, he is still somewhat a specialist in radio technology
- which is why he was moved from 16th artillery to 21st airborne. Command thought
his speciality was wasted on the artillery. Thorpe couldn't be happier, as this
meant he'd be living on the UPF Phoenix, the love
of his life.
The Airborne armor is standard armor for airborne troops. It is a standard UPF infantry armor, modified with airbreak pack.
A light armor designed for mobility. It has the added airbreak pack of the Airborne armor.
Airborne Automatic Rifle (AAR)
Standard Assault rifle for airborne troops. Uses 5.33 caseless ammunition.
Heavy support gun that can rapidly fire single plasma projectiles and load up for a larger plasma projectile. Uses so called Plasma Cells for ammunition. The plasma gun is often mounted or shot from the hip, with the help of an Ocular Targeting Sensor. This is essentially a camera attached to the gun, by which the soldier can see exactly where the barrel is pointing.
The Airborne SMG .60 is a weapon issued to mechanics, medics or chaplains. Although the effective range is limited, the weapon is very lethal at closer range. Uses .60 AE ammunition.
The .60 Standard Issue, or "The Hammer", is the most common sidearm for any UPF troops. Uses .60 AE ammunition.
"The Silent Hammer" is a sidearm of choice for scouts and snipers. It's a silenced version of the .60 Standard issue, and uses .60 AE ammunition.
This is the heavy scoped rifle of the UPF army. The scope itself has a 50x zoom. The semi-automatic rifle fires .55 Uranium tipped ammunition, although UPF does not use Uranium in its ammunition any more. The uranium has been replaced with a synthetic metal 5 times harder than uranium, without the side-effects of uranium in habitats of the People.
The Ocular Diagnostic Unit gathers information on carbonbased lifeforms and technical devices, then diagnoses their health in mere seconds. The diagnose and possible solution is then displayed in a monocle unit to the troop.
The ocular Targeting Sensor displays
a view of the weapons aim, plus tactical information.
